Here are the latest scans, continuing on from my earlier work. I’m almost ready to finish up with series, and need to start thinking about editing and presentation….yuck…
These are the latest series for my 303 project (still haven’t gotten around to posting the previous work – I’ll get onto that soon). These are prints done on fabric, which have then been drawn on in charcoal. Some were definitely more successful than others, and sadly the scanner bleaches out a lot of the colour so you can’t tell it is fabric…but I’m enjoying playing around with the technique and might be posting more similar works soon…we’ll see what this develops into!
A slightly different experiement – didn’t think it worked too well, but I thought I’d post it anyway.
I have been really terrible about updating this blog lately, and am quite behind in documenting where this project has progressed to. This is a set of works which is one of a few bodies of work I am currently doing…but as I happened to scan all these today I thought I’d put them up now rather than waiting to post everything in sequence. The rest of the work hopefully will get posted within the next week or so….apologies for any crooked scanning!
Hey, so some of you might know this already…but I was part of a recent exhibition called Animal Incarnations. I used some of my old work from the LOST PETS series – all the posters were bound into a book – https://katrinajaneedwards.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/201-part-i-lost-pets/. This was combined with my embroidered LOST CAT, which can be seen here – https://katrinajaneedwards.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/lost-cat/.
It was a great experience, especially as I got the chance to exhibit along side two of the third year tutors, Peter Madden and Michael Harrison, both of whose work I admire.
There is a publication for the exhibition – Brickell, H, Tan L and Williams T; Animal Incarnations; Papakura Art Gallery 2011.
These are the first works for my 302 Studio project – which I am still in the process of figuring out. So far I am doing embroidered portraits of women, and thus far they have all been female musicians (mostly old ones) – I’m just playing around with different embroidery strategies…and combining embroidery with painting.
The very first one I did!
I am not sure whether I’ll be filling her in with colour or not – but I can’t paint on this fabric so it will either be stitched or remain in outline.
This was actually the second piece I did, but I inserted her after Stevie because she is painted like the most recent two works.
The scanner unfortunately scanned right through the fabric so you can see the network of threads on the other side, which is REALLY annoying. However, these are not visible in actuality.
Same problem as Joan, dammit! I think Cher is my favourite of them all. 🙂
I am currently finishing off Joni Mitchell at the moment – we shall see after this week’s feedback whether I will be allowed to keep making this kind of work. I sure hope so!
